Peabody - Plaistow Hospital Competition
150 years after Peabody completed its first homes, they launched a competition to design 150 contemporary homes within the old Fever Hospital in Plaistow. The challenge was to design a mix of private and public housing in new buildings and in the historic hospital buildings.
Peabody bought the old hospital after its closure in 2006. Many buildings were in disrepair. Our proposal extended existing alignment of adjacent streets though the site. New buildings and existing buildings were arranged along these streets. New and old buildings provided a large variety of apartments and family houses.
For both new and existing residents this strategy sought to make a new place that was integrated in both the area’s architecture and community.
Our entry was one of five finalists, which Peabody used in their exhibition and publicity for the 150 year celebrations
