Visual of Marks and Spencer (M&S) Property Strategy Retro Fit of Classic High Street Store

M&S Property Strategy

We worked with M&S to develop a “stores of the future” property strategy for their UK estate. The strategy included

  • Retro fit of classic high street stores

  • New build city centre stores

  • New convenience formats

  • Out of town stores

M&S New convenience formats

M&S has traditionally being a high street store with Menswear, womenswear, food and home departments under one roof.

As customer demographics have changed we helped M&S on new formats for their customers. These included a UK property portfolio that included “M&S Simply Food” stores, fashion only stores as well as roadside convenience formats.

M&S in out of town formats

We developed templates and proposals for how M&S appears on the edge of towns and in retail parks.

The architecture was simple, generous. Everything we proposed for these locations followed a mantra of “do a lot with a little”.

We designed and delivered 2 out of town stores within the property strategy for M&S.

"The vast majority of the improved sales at M&S have come from new or refurbished stores...The new M&S look is defining the British shopping experience."

The design process

The process involved working collaboratively with a dedicated “stores of the Future team” in house at M&S.

As part of the property strategy we co-ordianted a whole team that included detailed design on

  • Sigange

  • Carbon Foot-printing

  • Customer bags

  • Health and well-being

  • In store circulation

  • Energy saving ventilation systems

  • Staff areas
