The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)

Mowat & Company have won the design competition to adapt The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) as a carbon-neutral HQ for a new way of working, post-Covid. The competition-winning design is based upon simple, effective moves that adapt the existing building for flexible working.

CIBSE have occupied the building since the 1970s. The building was previously the offices of Holliday, Hall and Co Electrical Engineers.

We selected Mowat & Company for their collaborative working methods and a clear understanding of retrofitting buildings with an environmental focus. They understand what it takes to achieve net zero carbon targets and with that in mind, we are very excited to see how the project progresses.

Spaces have been created for discreet teams and new larger areas for congregating, learning and sharing ideas. New planting has also been integrated inside and outside the building to bring people closer to nature.

The new design provides physical access to all parts of the building, with strong vertical movement to provide the user with exercise
and variety throughout the day.
